Gender Affirming Anxiety Counseling for Kids in St. Louis

We believe that all children deserve mental health care with professionals that support and accept them for who they are.

This means that from the moment you book your phone consultation to the moment your child graduates therapy, they will be getting compassionate care for anxiety, stress, and anger management that is gender inclusive. (Check out our interview with Rachel Kalina, MSW, LCSW to learn more about Gender Awareness and Inclusion.)

What does gender inclusive anxiety counseling at Compassionate Counseling in St. Louis look like?

It looks like an intake coordinator using your child’s preferred pronouns and name, who supports you supporting your child.

It looks like intake paperwork with spaces to include preferred pronouns and name, in addition to their legal name (which is required for any legal and billing purposes).

Compassionate Counseling St. Louis: gender affirming therapy and counseling for kids.

It means that all of our therapists and staff are gender affirming, and our therapists are required to take continuing education in affirming care.

It means that your child’s therapist will also use their name and pronouns, even on emails, and take your child’s lead in self-identifying.

Bathroom access:

It means that at in-person appointments, your child is free to use the bathroom of their choice, whether that’s the multi-stall gendered bathrooms down the hall, or the single stall bathroom on the first floor.

Client-centered care:

It means that while the focus of counseling is on managing anxiety, stress, and anger management, we remain client-centered.

This also means that we want you to find a great fit, even if that’s not us. There are some supports for transgender children, teens, and college students that we are not the best fit at meeting. For example, while we absolutely support you/your child’s need for it, we aren’t certified to approve surgeries for gender confirmation, or any other type of surgery. We’re happy to be a resource for you, before, during, or after the process, but if this is important to you, we recommend that you check out GALAP to find therapists in the area that are trained to provide this.
