Picture this…
You’re standing in line at Target, and your kid spies the Pokemon cards behind the register. You feel this sense of dread in your stomach. “Why did I stand here? Why didn’t I just go to the self checkout?” You try to explain that you can’t buy the cards this time, but maybe next time if they’re really really good, hoping and praying that you can negotiate your way out of a meltdown.
“No,” they say, “You promised that last time!” Their face starts to get red. “You never do what you tell me you’re going to do! It’s no fair!!” You feel your heart beating faster. Your muscles tense up.
You feel the overwhelming urge to leave immediately, or snap at your kid, or freeze and shut yourself up, hoping that by ignoring the problem it will just solve itself. But it rarely does.
Instead, you’re left trying to curb a temper tantrum with an inadequate toolbox, worrying that EVERYONE is staring at you - and judging you for being a bad parent.

Problem solving and trouble shooting around those outburst situations
Real skills and targeted problem solving, learning the evidence-based tools that we actually use as anxiety therapists, in session
Relaxation and coping skills to teach your child - and use yourself! - so that you everyone can stay calm in the moment
A plan for your own self-care, because being the parent of an anxious, angry child can be really hard - and we can't pour from an empty cup
You’ll leave with a plan targeting your specific needs.
We’ll dig in to evidence-based parenting strategies and teach you in depth coping and self-regulation skills, so that you feel like a competent parent with a plan tailored to your parenting style. We collaborate with you, to help figure out what to do, when, and how to get it done in the most effective way possible.

Parent Coaching Structure
We start with 6 skills-focused sessions. At the end of those 6, we work together to figure out what continued support looks like for you.
We’re never just reading aloud from a manual or following a curriculum without you in mind. We’re tailoring each session to you.

1. Totally individualized - it's not a manual or a set outline, it's 6 sessions that are skills focused but also give you room to process (in other words, it's parent-focused therapy).
2. For parents who have tried it all and feel stuck, or you also notice your own anxiety and anger that gets triggered by your kid.
3. Open to all parents whether or not your child is receiving therapy at our office - but also a great option for your own support while your kids are in the midst of their own counseling journey.

60 minute sessions
We plan to start with 6 hour-long sessions on a weekly basis. Each session, we check in on the week, explore what’s going on, and leave you with a game plan until our next session. And the end of our first set of 6 sessions, we can meet for another 3, or 6, or provide more ongoing support.
