Riding the Wave: Guided Meditation for Anxiety
Anxiety counseling for kids, teens, and college students in St. Louis, MO.
When you have anxiety, sometimes it can feel like your emotions will overwhelm you.
Anxiety, and anxiety-driven anger, can get so so big sometimes. It can feel like it’s going to drown you. It can be really scary. It makes sense not to like how it feels. But we promise, anxiety is not bad. It may not be comfortable, but fighting it, hiding from it, or trying to push it away will NEVER work.
Instead, we need to learn to ride the wave of our anxiety.
Guided meditation for anxiety.
It’s no surprise that our therapists are big believers in the power of relaxation and mindfulness skills. Because it’s impossible to stop emotions from happening, you (/your child or teen/your client) needs to learn how to ride the wave of anxiety, even letting it feel really big, and recognizing that it’s not going to stay that big for forever.
Riding the wave: guided meditation for anxiety and overwhelm
For this week’s guided meditation, we’re focusing on the ACT principle of letting emotions be instead of trying to fight and get away. When you push against an. emotion, it pushes back.

When to get more support:
Meditation is a great tool for anxiety management, but it doesn’t mean you have to just deal with anxiety on your own. You can always reach out to a therapist or counselor to talk more about your anxiety, figure out what else is going on underneath it, and build a really robust coping skills tool box, including meditation.
