Guided Meditation for Letting Go of Anxiety
Letting Go of (Biodegradable) Balloons: ACT Meditation for Letting Go and Releasing Stress, Worry, and Tension
The most searched term that lead to our website this month was “Letting Go Meditation” - meaning LOTS of people need help letting things go. This makes sense.
It is really hard to let things go sometimes - especially when you have anxiety or anger issues.
Anxious minds are focused on protecting you from bad things - even if those bad things aren’t going to happen - so they get obsessed with the little things that don’t go the way you want them to.
When you have anxiety, it’s also challenging to let things go because your brain wants to figure out what happened and how it should have gone differently. Your brain is thinking, “If I figure this out, it won’t ever happen again,” or, “If they had just acted THIS way, I never would have exploded!” But we can’t change what happens to us, or how people respond to us. We’re not in charge of the world around us. We’re only in charge of ourselves.
Today’s guided meditation for letting go is all about gently recognizing this, and putting our worries aside for now.
Instead of pushing something away or trying to fight these thoughts, worries, and stresses, we want to just let them gently float away from us. This meditation is a little longer, at around 10 minutes, so settle in, get comfy, and press play:
If you have trouble letting go of your thoughts, fears, or anxiety, you might want to consider anxiety counseling or therapy with a therapist you can trust.
It takes time to learn how to let things go. If you often find yourself obsessing over things, or having difficulty moving on from stressful or disappointing events, it may be time to call in an expert.
Anxiety therapists are trained in identifying those thoughts and help you reframe them or let them go, with the help of evidence-based therapies like CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).
